Cardiel House
The Cardiel family has been present in Morillo de Tou since the late 18th century, coming from Lamata. In 1775, a notary record exists of the marriage in Morillo de Tou between Josepha Salinas and Antonio Cardiel, who also, in 1787, was recognized as an 'infanzón' (a member of the lower nobility), a status which at the time conferred social prestige and certain privileges upon the house. The date 1856 is engraved on a lintel on the north facade, which surely corresponds to the last extension of the house. On the west facade, the marks of successive additions to the building can be seen.
Directly opposite stands another large building which served as a cattle pen and storage for grain, straw, alfalfa, etc. Cardiel was one of the first houses to be renovated. It was the kitchen and dining room at the beginning of the concession, and it also served as a hostel for years. Its roof was restored in the traditional way, with stone slabs, although it did not withstand the passage of time and was eventually replaced by tiles. The hayloft and the pen were also restored and adapted to house the general services of the holiday centre.
