Morillo School
The school, built in the 1920s of the last century, brought primary education up to the age of twelve for the boys and girls of Morillo de Tou. Before that time, most of the population could barely read and write. The classroom occupied the ground floor and was accessed from the door to the left of the facade. The upper floor was reserved for the housing of whoever came to teach. The first teacher assigned to the school was Ramón Payás Prada, who arrived as a temporary replacement in Morillo but stayed with his family in the village for years.
In a rural school, girls and boys of different ages lived together; they were taught according to their age, level, and abilities. In those years of struggle against illiteracy, most of the school time was dedicated to reading and writing, followed in importance by arithmetic, geography, history... This old school is today the Morillo Residence hostel, which has 26 places in seven rooms. As such, it continues to host dozens of school groups of different ages and origins each year.
