Day 1: Discovering Ainsa and its medieval town
We always recommend starting your getaway with a visit to Aínsa and its old quarter, declared one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, for its medieval town and its Historic-Artistic Site. Stroll through its cobbled streets, look at its stone houses and medieval arches... Ah! And something not to be missed is its impressive Plaza Mayor. Other recommendations not to be missed:
- Climb up to the Castle of Ainsa to walk within its walls and enjoy the panoramic views of the Pyrenees.
- Visit the Church of Santa María, a jewel of Aragonese Romanesque architecture.
- If you are travelling with children, make a note of the EcoMuseum, where you can discover the fauna and flora of Sobrarbe together.
In the evening, if you haven't already done so, we recommend you to sit on one of the terraces in the Plaza Mayor to taste local products and end the day as it deserves.
Day 2: Excursions in the Pyrenees for all levels
For the second day we suggest you enjoy the spectacular nature of Sobrarbe and do some mountain sports. Very close to Morillo de Tou you will find one of the most impressive treasures of the Pyrenees, the Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Depending on the level of each traveller, you can choose between some of the most popular routes:
- Easy route: Walk to the Arripas waterfall or the Ordesa meadow, ideal for families.
- Middle route: Trail to Cola de Caballo, one of the most iconic landscapes of the Pyrenees.
- Advanced route: Only for experienced hikers, we propose the ascent of Monte Perdido or the Faja de las Flores.
And if you are looking for something different, you can also visit the Añisclo Canyon, to contemplate its spectacular gorge carved by the river Bellós and take one of the many routes available in this valley.
Day 3: Charming villages in the Pyrenees
The last day is perfect to visit some of the most beautiful villages in the region and plan your return home. Each of them has its own special charm and we recommend visiting one of them:
- Boltaña, where you can visit the old town, the castle and the monastery.
- Abizanda, famous for its medieval tower and views over the Mediano reservoir.
- Naval, a small village with a pottery tradition, where you can still find workshops and unique pieces of pottery.
- Alquezar, another of the most beautiful villages in Spain where you can enjoy a wide variety of activities.
